Silt & Sorcery: Cecilia Bullo and Kevin Mooney
This exhibition coincides with Dublin Gallery Weekend 2026 and brings together new work by two of Ireland’s most exciting contemporary artists.
Silt and Sorcery brings together the distinct yet resonant practices of Cecilia Bullo and Kevin Mooney.
In this two-person exhibition, both artists present new works where sorcery-as-method operates as a shared framework for image and form. Celtic and Mediterranean lineages, alongside wider hybrid currents, are combined across two- and three-dimensional works. Transformation, ritual, the supernatural and ecological entanglement are common threads spanning both practices.
Through speculative fiction, Kevin Mooney conjures invented art histories. His paintings and drawings are populated by concocted historical “bogman” and “bogwoman” painters, mythological creatures, and stories half submerged in the landscape. His imagery and painting language are informed by a reimagined visual culture of the Irish diaspora – weaving myth, ancestry and imagination into a living contemporary practice.
Cecilia Bullo engages in an expanded sculptural practice that fuses classical training with sensorially charged materiality. Through a process they describe as ‘chaos-magick making,’ interwoven narratives seek restorative connections between ecological wounds and human experience. For Silt and Sorcery, Bullo presents new works stemming from a residency at Centre Culturel Irlandais, Paris and at Banff Centre of Arts and Creativity, Alberta, Canada.
Across the exhibition, myth and ritual are mobilised as cultural technology; set against extractive regimes, reconfiguring memory, and insisting on protections for other-than-human and spectral worlds from exploitation and colonisation.
