 EAMON O’KANE: Studio, House, Museum

This project involves a research trip to Illinois, USA, to support the development of two major forthcoming exhibitions. I will visit Lake Forest College (Illinois) to begin planning and collaborative research for an AI-assisted art exhibition taking place there in summer 2026. While in the region, I will conduct research at key architectural sites, including Mies van der Rohe’s Farnsworth House and buildings at the Illinois Institute of Technology, as well as Frank Lloyd Wright’s iconic houses in and around Chicago. This research will directly inform a new body of work for a solo exhibition at Hillsboro Fine Art, Dublin, opening on February 5th 2026.

The project merges modernist architecture, contemporary painting, and artificial intelligence—continuing my long-standing interest in the relationship between built environments, digital technologies, and the artist’s studio. For the Dublin exhibition, I will also produce works based on Eileen Gray’s E-1027 and Scott Tallon Walker’s Goulding and Tallon Houses in Ireland. The exhibition will explore parallels between Eileen Gray and Francis Bacon, especially regarding their spatial thinking, use of materials, and approaches to the studio. I will also address Le Corbusier’s controversial interventions at E-1027, offering a critical reflection on authorship, power, and gender within architectural history.
